There are various ways to play the Tibetan Singing Bowls (use the bowls). One way is to place the bowl in the palm of your hand, and with the other hand strike (tap) the outside of the bowl with the mallet. Striking (tapping) the bowl will make it resonate.
Another way to play the Tibetan Singing Bowl to place the bowl in the palm of your hand, and with the other hand rub the outside of the rim in a circular motion (bowl) with the mallet. This will allow the bowl to vibrate freely, and produce overtones and a continuous singing sound. You can also increase the speed which will allow the sound to rise.

Using Tibetan Singing Bowls for Meditation
Tibetan Singing Bowls are very effective tools for transformation of consciousness. Listening to the sound of the Tibetan Singing Bowls helps the mind move more easily into altered states of consciousness.
The following example usually produces good results: Find a quiet place where you will not be distracted by outward sounds or events. With eyes closed, sit upright keeping your back straight. Sit in either a chair of in the half lotus position, whichever is most comfortable for you. Rest the Tibetan Bowl in your lap. Quiet the mind and breathing deeply. After a few minutes of this deep breathing exercise, take your Tibetan Bowl and softly ring it.
Listen to the sound, the different qualities and the “wah-wah” effects. As the tones fade toward a point you can no longer hear them, turn your mind inward and listen to the sound of your own body. You will experience a sound that is like a hum, a deep Om sound. This is the sound of t he Universal Cord.
If you practice this meditation a number of times, you may find that afterwards external sounds will take on the sound of Om and you can hear the Universal Chord all around you.
